The Restore Program's objective is to develop strategic community wellness initiatives to reach vulnerable populations, including the execution of public health (Nutrition and Sanitation) Initiatives, community health fairs, medical camps, demonstrations, and infectious disease training.
WP has partnered with Hopeland Foundation to construct a community garden that will provide food for orphans who attend the Hopeland orphanage and orphans and vulnerable children who live in the surrounding community.
The community garden will not only provide a sustainable food source for the orphans, but will also be used to teach the orphans vocational and entrepreneurial skills. The orphans will receive basic subsistence agriculture training, which they can use to continue to grow crops on their own in the future or choose commercial farming as a potential career path. The surplus crops will be sold in the community market to other community members. Through this market experience, orphans will develop business skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values that will empower them to enter the marketplace and generate income, which will be used to reinvest in the farm, and cover basic needs: food, clothing, school fees, and health. The market experience will also contribute towards providing the orphans with a means to become more self-sufficient and to achieve a higher quality of life.
The children will be able to harvest and eat kale from the garden in November!
